Guild Guitar Company is a US-based manufacturer founded in 1952 by Alfred Dronge, a Guitarist and music-store owner, and George Mann, a former executive with Epiphone Guitar Company.
In the 1960's, Guild moved aggressively into the electric guitar market, promoting its Starfire line of semi-acoustics and semi-solid guitars and basses.
A number of West Coast psychedelic bands used these instruments including the Grateful Dead, and Jefferson Airplane.
Amongst the notable celebrities who play Guild Guitars include: Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Bryan Adams (F-50 acoustic), Dave Gilmour, Mark Knopfler and John Lennon.
