Kawai Musical Instruments Manufacturing Company was estabished in 1927 in Shizuoka, Japan by Koichi Kawai with seven like-minded colleagues. He was the first person to design and build a complete piano action in Japan and had a passion to produce superior pianos. Since 1989, Kawai has been run by Koichi's grandson, Hirotaka.
